about

The music on Group Sounds represents a path that I could have taken, but didn't. From about 2009 until 2011, the work I did with the Ensemble consisted of written scores intended to create flexible musical environments rather than fixed pieces.

This particular piece was performed several times by different ensembles. A later realization appears on the AW Ensemble album Rough Hemmed Seams. I'm very thankful for the people that performed this work. I've been playing music for a minute & I'm still grateful that there are people out there willing to devote their time to the work I make.

As fingerstyle guitar & folk material became more central to my work, the flexible scores (and creating written scores at all) gradually fell away. These recordings are rough, meant more as a document than anything else. I imagine I will eventually come back to this mode of operation, but for now I'm still practicing guitar.

I asked Counterspark & subnaught to contribute remixes to bring these old works into 2k14 & I'm thankful for their contribution.
