about

These two pieces are so distinctly different in my mind, I was surprised to find these recordings on an old laptop & see that they were recorded within weeks of each other.

Until Human Voices Wake Us was originally released as one side of a cassette on Seth Graham's now-defunct Quilt label. His artwork for the release was beautiful, I'm not sure how many copies were made. I'm also not sure how I made this music. I know that I was processing a snare drum that I played with brushes & objects, but I can't for the life of me remember more than that. The cello is Eric Perreault's sampled playing, & there are a few field recordings included as well.

Some Kind of Texas Accent was a piece that Eric played with me on numerous occasions. It was the first piece I wrote for Eric & the October 2008 tour was our first of many together. This recording is from Greenville, SC - we were on our way down to Atlanta to play the City Skies festival. As we were packing up, I somehow slammed my left ring finger in my car door & had to go to the emergency room. This was the day of the Greenville show, if I remember correctly. As it happened, the emergency room was nearby so I threw my car keys at Eric & ran there, bleeding everywhere. Somehow we made it to the gig on time & I wore an embarrassingly large bandage on my finger for that tour. My fingernail still bends at a different pitch than it used to.
